Required Equipment
- MPI-2 Interface
- Diagnostic cable
- PC with BUDS installed
What is BUDS
BUDS is a diagnostic software designed to monitor electronic systems, activate components, read ECU data and perform configuration changes.
Connecting BUDS to the Vehicle
- Turn OFF ignition
- Connect MPI-2 to PC via USB
- Locate vehicle communication connector
- Connect diagnostic cable to vehicle
- Connect cable to MPI-2 interface
- Turn ignition ON
- Launch BUDS and log in
Connection Status Indicators
- USB light – must be GREEN
- CAN light – must be GREEN
If both lights are not green, communication will fail.
Common Communication Problems
No USB Connection
- Check USB cable
- Verify PC drivers
- Check USB port
No CAN Communication
- Check diagnostic cable connection
- Verify ignition is ON
- Inspect CAN wiring
No ECU Detected
If BUDS does not detect any ECU, verify:
- Vehicle ignition is ON
- All connectors are properly attached
- Multifunction gauge is powered
How to Read ECU Data
- Click "Read Data" in BUDS
- Verify number of modules
- Check for missing ECUs
Writing Changes to ECU
If settings are modified, click "Write Data" to save changes to the ECU.
ECU Update Detection
If an update icon appears in BUDS, at least one module has a firmware update available.
Important Notes
- Always connect everything before launching BUDS
- Use the latest BUDS version
- Do not exceed 7.6m cable length
