How to Backup BUDS2 Files (.buds2)

BUDS2 software stores diagnostic session files that contain important vehicle data, troubleshooting history and configuration records.
Before reinstalling the software or changing computers, it is critical to create a backup of these files.

Default BUDS2 file location

By default, BUDS2 saves files in the following directory:

👉 C:\Program Files (x86)\BRP\BUDS2\Files

This folder contains all saved .buds2 files generated during diagnostic sessions

How to locate your files

To confirm file location:

1. Open BUDS2
2. Go to File tab
3. Click Save a BUDS2 file
4. Check the destination folder

This will show the exact directory where files are stored

Backup procedure

Step 1 — Open Files folder

Navigate to:

👉 C:\Program Files (x86)\BRP\BUDS2\Files

Make sure the folder contains your .buds2 files.

Step 2 — Copy files

Copy the entire Files folder.

You can:

• Copy and paste to another location
• Save to external drive
• Transfer to USB device

Step 3 — Store backup safely

Recommended locations:

• External USB drive
• Another partition
• Cloud storage
• Backup workstation

Important notes

• BUDS2 files are already compressed
• Additional ZIP compression does NOT reduce size significantly
• Backup before uninstalling BUDS2 — files may be overwritten
